About Campion’s Run

In 1841, a smart little Irishman took up a parcel of land in the South East of SA, running sheep and cattle on his property “Campion’s Run”, and dreaming of a future in his new land.

Sadly, Campion’s passion for fast horses led to his downfall, when on a visit to his homeland, he got too much pace on the way home from a party, rode into a canal and drowned at the age of 46.

Campion may not have realised his dreams of an Australian farming empire, but was an early pioneer in the settlement of the Padthaway area.

Campion’s Run is now the home of Oparina, which prides itself in the production of high quality, unique wines, made using handcrafted methods.

In honour of Rowland Campion’s courage and vision to develop the area of Padthaway, we have named our new range of limited release wines “Campion’s Run”. Exceptional parcels of grapes from our Oparina vineyards are chosen in optimal vintage years to create a premium wine which will cellar for years to come, and be worthy of the legacy that men such as Campion left behind.
